Joey Costa

Academic Support 1

I’m a born and raised Jersey girl and moved to South Carolina back in 2014. I attended the College of Charleston majoring in special education while minoring in writing. While in college, I volunteered for an aquatics and motor therapy program called FitCatz for 3 years where I was a clinician and then moved to a group leader. I also got to facilitate a freshmen seminar my senior year! I did my final internship at James B Edwards Elementary in Mount Pleasant, SC. I graduated in 2019 and have been at Hunter Street since. I am always dancing, singing, and spreading my energy everywhere I go. My favorite book is How the Grinch Stole Christmas and I love to eat onion dip. I genuinely look forward to seeing what the future holds!

Catherine Ryerson

Preschool Support

My name is Catherine Adkins and I teach Preschool Support.  I was born and raised in York and am excited that I have the opportunity to teach in my hometown.  I have a Bachelor of Science in Special Education with a concentration in Mental/Severe Disabilities from Winthrop University and a master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Arizona State University.  This is my second-year teaching, but my fifth year in the district.  Prior to teaching I worked as an assistant in the district’s Applied Behavior Therapy Program.  Teaching has always been my first choice of a career.  I love working with preschool age students and watching how much they grow and develop; socially, academically, and in their personality.  I love to laugh, have fun, and take every opportunity to just “be.”  Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

Ms. Homar

Andrea Homar

Preschool Support Assistant

My name is Andrea Homar. I am a Cuban-American born and raised in Miami, Florida. Our family decided to move to the Carolinas almost seven years ago in hopes of escaping the heat, and enjoying the change of seasons... We have truly loved calling SC home but surprised to find it just as hot!  I rejoined the corporate world in 2022 after being a stay at home mom for around 10 years. I started substituting with ESS in York and after spending most of the 23/24 school year subbing in what will now be my permanent class, I am so excited to officially be joining the husky family here at Hunter Street.

My husband Harrison and I have been married for almost 15 years and are parents to two incredible boys: Grayson and AJ both of whom recently graduated from HSE! For fun our family loves spending time outdoors, thrifting, playing board games and frequenting Carowinds... they love going for the rides and me? Well, you can find sitting in the shade reading till they get their fill of terrifying heights!
